From Belgium to Garber, Iowa
After a career of almost 30 years as a veterinarian in Belgium, Didier V. decided to pursue his childhood dream. This dream was to establish Belgian Blue Beef in the USA with a goal of selling the meat. This meat is exceptionally lean and has unmatched tenderness.
In April of 2020, Didier’s project caught the eye of Brian S. from Garber, Iowa. Didier created embryos in Belgium, then shipped them to the United States. Brian then implanted them in his angus beef cows in June 2021, resulting in the 1st pure bred calves being born in March of 2022.
“Farm to Fork” is something we emphasize with animal welfare throughout its entire life and without the use of any growth hormones. The animals are butchered at a local USDA inspected locker, resulting in complete traceability of the animal from the day it is born, until it reaches your fork.
The results of a perfect collaboration between an American and a Belgian!
Didier and his wife Anne emigrated to the USA from the small village of Bure, Belgium as the project came to life. They currently reside in Monona, IA and are the proud owners of the Garnavillo Mini Mart. They enjoy traveling the countryside of Iowa and Wisconsin and meeting new people.
